Painting With Natural Materials |  Emily Imeson

Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 April 2025

Time: 9.00am - 3.00pm both dates
Where: Ignite Studios - 60 Crane Street Ballina
Age: 18+
Cost: $280 (incl GST) - tools and materials provided

What environmental impact do we have as artists? Can we step lightly on the earth in our practice? Explore the fundamentals of painting with a focus on natural pigments, non-toxic, plastic free mediums, and an ecologically sensitive approach to art making with exhibiting artist Emily Imeson.

In this two-day workshop Emily will take participants through the fundamentals of preparing surfaces to work on, and making paints from natural pigments, followed by guided drawing exercises, and painting demonstrations, both abstract and landscape based. The workshop will then move into experimental mark-making and an exploration of the materials, with a final focus on the creation of two small compositions. At the end of the workshop participants will have two small, completed works to take home with them.

Landscape painting is the foundation of Emily’s practice, and her teaching will draw on this background, as well as focusing on abstract play and explorative mark-making.

As an artist Emily has dedicated herself to exploring ecologically considerate materials and mediums in her work, and this workshop will consider some of the questions she finds herself grappling with in the journey to develop accountability for waste and consumption within her practice.

This workshop is ticketed and has a limited capacity. Tools and materials are provided, and there will be a short break for lunch. Bring water and food or enjoy the Gallery Café next door.

Bookings available below.
