What familiar objects exist in your mind even when they no longer exist in reality? Memory Postcard  is a free workshop exploring memories of lost objects, for community members who have been affected in any way by the flooding events of recent years.

Isobel Knowles and Van Sowerwine are collaborating artists, award-winning filmmakers and digital creatives who work with miniatures to recreate real and imagined spaces. In this workshop participants will create simple paper sculptures that recall a piece of furniture from their past. These will be photographed, and a postcard-sized print of each memory space created for attendees to take home. Templates are provided as a guide.

Participants wishing to contribute to a larger virtual reality (VR) creative documentary the artists are developing, examining the experience of floods, memory, and the objects and spaces lost, will be invited to record a short audio description of the work they have made during the workshop. The audio will be translated by the artists, along with the paper sculptures into a VR work to be experienced by participants.

These free workshops are for flood-impacted community members, and have a limited capacity of just 6 places. If you have booked but can no longer attend, please return your ticket or advise us as soon as possible, so that we may offer your place to someone on our waiting list. Please note that due to the small capacity bookings have been limited to 2 places per person.

These workshops will be documented (photographed and filmed) with participant consent (parental consent in the case of anyone under 18). You do not have to be filmed, and if you do not wish to be filmed, you may advise the facilitators.
