A special in-conversation event with exhibiting artist Lyndall Phelps and Gallery Coordinator Imbi Davidson. Hear Lyndall introduce her creative practice, and discuss her exhibition Re-present, on display at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery from 1 May – 23 June 2024. Lyndall and Imbi will discuss her inspirations, research approach, making processes, presentation, and audience engagement, as well as her unique artistic methodology.
Phelps has exhibited widely throughout Australia and the United Kingdom. Her work involves the gathering of large amounts of information, images, and objects through intensive research, as well as the investigation of collections, both historical and contemporary, in archives and museums. She aims to unearth less visible material from the past, re-presenting it through narrative driven installations. The social history of an object and how it connects to humanity, and the endeavours of individuals are of particular interest, especially when the story surrounding them conveys fragility and vulnerability, or alternatively healing and protection.
Recent solo exhibitions include Science of Common Life, National Art Glass Gallery, Wagga Wagga (2024), The Secret Life of Objects, Onespace Gallery, Brisbane (2023) and Re-collect, Grafton Regional Gallery (2022). Her work can also be seen in Rearranged: Art of the Flower, Museum of Brisbane (2024).
