Karena is a visual artist who has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally since 1980.
Her work is in private and government collections, numerous books and publications and she has won many prizes.
Her mastery of a number of original techniques in both watercolour and oils focuses on the wider expanse of landscape down to the intricate detail of the macro world.
These works are from her latest series ‘Understories: Tidescapes’ and are the culmination of nearly ten years work pushing the boundaries of the accepted use of the medium of oil paint on canvas. Her paintings depict pattern and forms in the natural world by isolating fragments from the distraction of a wider field. These subjects are all as found on beaches from Eastern Tasmania to the Northern rivers. By paying closer attention to what we walk on, we can learn more about our world.
