Join us for a special after-hours event to kick of the Northern Rivers Community Gallery's (NRCG) public programs for 2023, with exhibiting Artist Marian Tubbs in conversation with ABC Radio National presenter of The Art Show, Daniel Browning. An award-winning journalist, broadcaster, documentary maker, sound artist and writer from the Bundjalung and Kullilli people's of far northern NSW and South-western QLD, Daniel will provide an unscripted insight into Marian's exhibition reversible destiny, and delve into her practice and career.
This will be followed by a sonic performance by electronic musician and mixed media artist, Laura Hunt. Building on her five-year relationship of creative and technical collaboration with Tubbs, Hunt will draw samples from the soundtrack to Marian’s video work, and perform a live, improvised collaboration within the Gallery.
Marian Tubbs is an artist living and working on Bundjalung (Lismore) and Kabi Kabi (Sunshine Coast) land. Her assemblage practice examines human-centred technologies, natural ecological systems, and language, conflating body and object, high and low culture, and the physical and virtual to transform the everyday into a space for deep play. Her exhibition Reversible Destiny is on display at NRCG from 11 January until 5 March 2023.
Eora (Sydney)-based, Laura Hunt has toured internationally as a musician, and exhibited internationally as an artist. Her work is multi-disciplinary, investigating the body as a conduit for transformation, and she uses spoken poetry, solfeggio frequencies, subliminal messages, hardware sampling and amplified water to create richly textural music.
This event is free and reservations are not required, however seating is limited and allocated on a first come, first seved basis.
