Ignite Studios Artist Residency | March - April 2025
Beth Taylor is a local artist who creates abstract artworks inspired by nature, using art making as a tool for self-expression and connection to self and surroundings. With a background in psychology and education, Beth is interested in using creativity to promote wellbeing and encourage children to explore their emotions. She has worked with a range of young people using programs she has developed.
The purpose of my residency was to have a space to create, focusing on the process and the experience of mark-making rather than the end result. The residency allowed me the space and freedom to just create for the joy of creating.
Using nature as my inspiration, I experimented with a range of materials and techniques including acrylics, watercolours and lino printing. Having a dedicated space to spread out, get messy and prioritise being creative has meant I have been able to get back into my practice in a way I would not have been able to otherwise.
This little home away from home studio space felt instantly welcoming and warm. I especially enjoyed being able to wander through the gallery next door, feeling inspired and part of an artistic community. I am incredibly thankful to the Northern Rivers Community Gallery for giving me this opportunity and for the support and encouragement from the team at NRCG.
Thank you!
