Duke Albada  |  You Are Here

6 January - 2 March 2016

Albada’s works are deeply thought provoking audio visual installations. You Are Here, on show from 6 January until 2 March 2016 by Duke Albada, is an artistic video chronicle of a personal road trip researching the artist’s connection to country. Though it commenced with a physical journey, the artwork exposes Duke’s deep affection with and concerns about country and culture through an intimate survey featuring a macro view of the natural world.

All imagery was gathered during a three week road trip journeying through an extensive region in the mid-east area of Australia covering vastly different environments. Exhibited at the airport, the work highlights the disparate connections between air travel and connection to land.

Duke Albada has exhibited extensively in Australia, Europe and the USA since 1998. Her site inspired artworks are commissioned by galleries, cultural organisations, sculpture shows, festivals, councils, architects and developers. Albada was a finalist at the prestigious Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award in Melbourne, Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney and has exhibited two collaborative artworks in the Thessaloniki Biennale. Duke received an Architectural Design degree from the Gerrit Rietveld Art Academy, Amsterdam in 1997 and completed a Master of Fine Art at Monash University, 2010 investigating Audience Engagement in Multisensory Art.
